I am trying to execute this command from a web application on sourceServer:

var mgr = ServerManager.OpenRemote(destServer)

but I receive this error:

UnAuthorized access wth a detail error: "Retrieving the COM class factory for remote component with CLSID {2B72133B-3F5B-4602-8952-803546CE3344} from machine failed due to the following error: 80070005"

I have full administrative rights on both servers.

I can issue that command from a console application no problem, but when I try it from the web application, I get the error!

I have tried enabling the remote management checkbox and started teh remote access auto connection manager and also tried updating the load user profile on the applicaiton pool from false to true.

My firewall is off.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

How to coonect with IIS Manager ?!

I dont get a Browse button when I run IIS Manager remotely to IIS 8...

Trying to push myself into the 201x's, I am playing with remote management via IIS Manager for a Server Core 2012 hosted IIS.  IIS Manager is run on a Windows 8 machine, running build 9200.

I successfully connect to the IIS 8 Server, and all is well until I try to create a website remotely.  On the first page of creation, I have to specify the name of the website to create, the physical path, etc etc.

I would like to do everything I need using IIS manager only (ie, no need for remoting to the server to create the directory, so I need to create a new directory to hold the sites files.  Various sites say you can "hit the browse button and create a new directory", but I dont seem to have a browse button to his for the physical path.

Simple question: Why isnt the button there for me?

Thank you very much in advance for any help,

Export Saved Server Connections List in INETMGR

I would like to export the list of connections that I have currently in inetmgr. When you select connect and then open the server you can save your list so that each time you open inetmgr your remote connections are there. Does anyone know where this list is stored? I need to export and allow other engineers to open the list.

IIS7 - Monitoring number of connections progmatically

Hi there

New to IIS/Windows programming world, so please excuse my ignorance.

We have a bunch of load balanced IIS7 servers hosting a web app. I would like to be able to programatically pull the number of active connections & source IP address of each of the connections.

Would appreciate some pointers (would prefer C#).

Thanks in advance.

IIS 8 Remote Management - no certificates module

$

This was brought up in a previous thread: http://forums.iis.net/t/1200472.aspx?Server+certificates+module+missing+in+IIS8+Remote+Management, but the issue was not really addressed and I'd like to bring it up again to find out what I'm missing...

I have a Windows 2012 installation of Server Core, and have made it a WSUS server.  I wish for it to use SSL to connect to the servers in my network for various reasons, and have installed the RSAT tools and IIS management tools onto a Windows 8 machine.  I'm logged into the windows 8 machine as the domain administrator, and have added the WSUS server to the IIS manager.  I am able to connect to it, but there is no Certificates module to work with so I can create a certificate.

How do I get the IIS Certificates module to show up in the remote management mmc?

IIS Remote Manager can't connect to IIS server

I'm encountering a bizarre problem when I try to connect to a specific IIS 8 server using IIS Manager on a Windows 7 client.

 The situation:

I have 2 clients A and B.  Both Windows 7 with IIS Remote Manager installed.

The serveur is on Windows 2012 with the IIS role.

Client A is able to connect the the serveur just fine using IIS Manager

Client B cannot connect to the same server.  It gets the following error:

"The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send."

Some info on the configuration:

firewall between the server and clients.

- The Web Server Management service is started and running (otherwise client A would not be able to connect)

- The SAME account is used to connect with both clients (A and B).

- The same version of IIS Remote Manager is used for both clients.  (obtained at this link:

http://www.iis.net/downloads/microsoft/iis-manager)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sorting the IIS Manager connection list?

Is there a way to sort the connection list in the IIS 7 Manager?  I have the "IIS Manager for Remote Administration" plugin installed, and after you add more than a few remote servers to your list it becomes difficult to find what you are looking for if they are just listed in the order you add them.  Thanks!

IIS Remote Manager and having to authenticate with every connection

I have setup IIS Manager on my Windows 7 machine and I am able to access everything fine (multiple servers).  My issue is that when I first start the console I have to enter in my password on every server I have listed, is there anyway around this issue?  I would think since this is an intergrated Microsoft product there is some way to accomplish this.

Delegate site creation without listing current sites.

I got an  IIS server running and a customer wants to be able to create a website on it (remotely), so he can create a redirect.

I've setup the IIS Manager so i can connect remotely to the complete server and also to a (created) website.

However, I don't want the customer to see the rest of the websites, so he can accidently delete existing websites. Is this possible?

Intermittent Access Issues

$

Hi,

Have an issue whereby I have configured some non-admin users as delegate users and there is an intermittent issue connecting using IIS manager to the site.

It appears fine when connecting from a remote node, however when on the node running IIS it doesn't always connect.

You enter the hostname (either fully qualified or not), localhost, 127.0.0.1 or its local IP address and most of the time it wont connect.

After entering creds and clicking Next, it will try to connect for a while and then return an error "Could not connect to the specified computer. Details: The operation has timed out"

Any help please?

Thanks,

Tristan.

The Web Management Service was stopped because it did not respond.

I have an issue with the webmanagement service (wmsvc). The problem is it stopped working...and now every 5 minutes I get a eventid 8001 from the IIS-WMSVC.

This issue started after installing the Windows updates 2657424, 2656351 and 2656362, all updates linked to security bulletin MS11-100 (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/ms11-100).

Allowed remote machines are unable to remotely manage IIS, the connection cannot be made. Also the wmsvc logging (W3SVC1) stopped after the mentioned updates where installed.

I know the 5 minute ping wmsvc does, is the reason I get the eventlog entry. But I cannot find out what is causing this issue.

The solution in this thread doesn't solve my issue; http://forums.iis.net/p/1174282/1965783.aspx

Unable to start WMSVC - or connect - kind of

I installed the Management Service and successful set everything up.  I connected from a Windows Vista machine and life was good.

All of a sudden, after stopping it and changing to port 8173 for testing purposes and then trying to start the service again, I was unable to start the service.  I reversed everything but that didn't help.  After trying for a bit, I through I would try using Local System.  Using Local System the service started up, but I'm unable to connect to anything remotely. (this is 10 minutes after everything worked perfectly)

The error I get is:

---------------------------
Connect to Site
---------------------------
Could not connect to the specified computer.

Details: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Event viewer doesn't offer any suggestions except that the WMSVC service keeps failing and starting again and that it has done this 1 time unexpectantly.

The logs only show logs exactly like this, except for the date:

2007-07-18 03:02:00 ::1 GET /ping.axd - 8172 - ::1 Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+Win32;+WinHttp.WinHttpRequest.5) 200 0 0

For one, how do I switch back to Local Service when I don't know the password?  And, what else can I do to troubleshoot?  I tried with my administrator account but it does the same thing as Local System.

Note, this error is when testing on the local server too, and I've tested with windows firewall turned off.  Also note that it worked 10 minutes before and I changed virtually nothing in the meantime, so I do know that everything was configured correctly.

Thanks

Scott

Server 2012 R2 Core - IIS 8.5 Remote Management fails

$

Hi All,

I am having a little issue at the moment, i am attempting to prove the worth of using Server 2012 R2 core to host our websites but have hit a hurdle. When attempting to access my Core IIS server using IIS manager from another Server 2012 R2 full GUI machine I am getting the below error. So far I have enabled the WMSVC Service and confirmed its running, i have added the reg key "EnableRemoteManagement" =dword:00000001. I have confirmed port 8172 is open between the servers.

I am a little unclear with regards to the certificate to be used, i currently have left this as default but have gone as far as exporting the local cert for wmsvc and importing on the management machine. Still i get the same error.

I must be missing something but i have been looking at this for a day now and my vision has gone blurry...

Error:

Could not connect to the specified computer

Details: The Server is not accepting remote connections.

IIS Remote Manager and having to authenticate with every connection

$

Ok, sorry for raising an old thread, but this is irk'ing me somewhat. The previous thread in December 2003 stated the the reason you have to enter your credentials every time you connect to a remote IIS server is for "safety"?

Original Thread: http://forums.iis.net/t/1206920.aspx?IIS+Remote+Manager+and+having+to+authenticate+with+every+connection

As you mentioned above, if you want to connect to a web server by using IIS Manager, you need type a user name and password in the User name and Password boxes on the Provide Credentials page, this is for the sake of safety. Regards Angie

So if this is for "safety", why can I, as an administrator on my domain, remotely manage my servers through server manager, manage DNS, manage DHCP, manage file shares, manage Exchange server, manage active directory , etc etc without having to re-enter my credentials every time, for a server that is on my domain. But I have to re-enter them every time for IIS?

Remove Https Binding from IIS7.x site with C#

$

I am trying to figure out how to remove a given configured https binding from IIS7.x (Windows 7) using C#.

The naive approach was to:

var binding = site.Bindings.FirstOrDefault(...find the given binding...);
if(binding == null) return;
site.Bindings.remove(binding); //Site
iis.CommitChanges(); //ServerManager - Throws an NotImplementedException when the above binding is a HTTPS binding.

The above actually seems to work, it removes the binding but I keep getting an "NotImplementedException" thrown in my face.

I would obviously like to get rid of that as that leaves me in an uncertain state of "what was it that went wrong"???.

Here is a stacktrace from the exception:

   at Microsoft.Web.Administration.Interop.IAppHostMethodInstance.Execute()
   at Microsoft.Web.Administration.ConfigurationMethodInstance.Execute()
   at Microsoft.Web.Administration.ConfigurationElement.ExecuteMethod(String methodName)
   at Microsoft.Web.Administration.Binding.RemoveSslCertificate()
   at Microsoft.Web.Administration.BindingManager.BindingTransaction.Commit()
   at Microsoft.Web.Administration.BindingManager.Save()
   at Microsoft.Web.Administration.ServerManager.CommitChanges()
   at Kudu.SiteManagement.SiteManager.RemoveSiteBinding(String applicationName, String siteBinding, SiteType siteType) in e:\kudu\Kudu.SiteManagement\SiteManager.cs:line 331

So can anyone give me some insight into how I "correctly" approach this problem?

---- Edit 3. Dec 2014

I can also observer that the binding lingers in some way after the error above, while it seems to be removed from the site in the IIS 7.x, when I try to add it again I get a message from the IIS 7.x that the binding is in use in another application. I can then accept the ignore that fact and add it again.

Removing it directly from within IIS 7.x obviously works as intended, and the above message will never occur. But we can't demand that manual step.

Workstation - Windows 7 pro X64, Server(s) are 2008 R2, and I have admin rights on both.

For some reason, when I launch IIS manager on my workstation, there is no option to connect to another computer/server, only my local machine is listed.
